9 May officially became the national holiday of Israel

July 26 The Knesset approved in final reading the law on May 9, which recognizes Victory Day as an official holiday in Israel.

The legislative initiative was approved unanimously: it was supported by the 53 parliamentarian.

“Today is a very important day for me. Now we can be sure: the memory of the victory over Nazism and the heroism of the Jews who fought on the fronts of World War II will never be lost. For veterans, including those living in Israel, this date, May 9, has symbolic meaning. It is our moral duty to honor them for saving humanity from Nazism and to perpetuate the memory of the great victory, which has special significance for Jews and Israel,” said Oded Forer, a lawmaker from the Our Home Israel party, who prepared the bill.

From now on, the Victory Day over the Nazis in World War II will be officially celebrated in Israel on May 9 at the state level, it will also be entered in the register of public holidays.

The bill was passed in an unprecedentedly short time for the Knesset - for 4 a month from the moment its filing.
