In the Senate will present a new immigration bill: details
Senator John McCain and Christopher Kun on Monday will present immigration laws in an attempt to achieve budget approval before the deadline on Friday, reports The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, a two-party legislative base provides the recipients of the DACA program, who are called "dreamers", the possibility of obtaining citizenship.
DACA sought to protect against the deportation of some immigrants brought to the United States illegally when they were children.
Senate assistants told the magazine that thanks to this plan, the “dreamers” living in the US from December 31 on 2013, having the legal status of DACA, can obtain citizenship.
"It's time to end the impasse so we can move quickly to a long-term budget deal that gives our men and women the unified support they deserve," McCain said in a statement Sunday.
“Reaching an agreement will not come soon enough for America's service members; the current political reality requires bipartisan cooperation to address the upcoming expiration of the DACA program and secure the southern border,” he continued.
According to reports, the legislation does not include immediate funding for the wall on the southern border of the United States, which is one of President Trump's key demands and is likely to outrage some Republicans.
Thanks to this plan, more people will be able to take the path to citizenship and legal status than if Trump’s original plan had been adopted.
Last month, the White House announced that the president would support the path to citizenship of 1,8 million young immigrants in exchange for border funding and radical changes to the immigration system.
The federal government closed for three days in January after Senate Republicans and Democrats could not agree on spending public funds.
The Democrats said they would not support this measure, because it does not include a solution to the problems of the DACA program that Trump relocated last year.
