Trump wants to 'close the country' for the sake of border security

“The Democrats don't want a wall, but we're going to get one, even if we have to think about shutting down the country for a while. We're going to get a wall, we have no choice. We have absolutely no choice, we are going to keep our country safe," Trump said.

Later in the discussion, Trump once again mentioned the possibility of “closing the country”.

“We may have to shut down our country to realize that we either have a country or we don’t. And you cannot allow people to pour into our country as they are doing now,” the president said.

Commenting on the words of the head of the White House, a member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party, Pramila Jayapal, said that Trump "is absolutely not in himself if he thinks that such a decision is reasonable for the American economy and corresponds to the idea of ​​compassion or American values."

“This president did everything he could to turn it against immigrants every time he had a problem, and that saddens me very deeply,” Jayapal said.

During the discussion, the president harshly criticized Democrats, including Ohio State Senator Sherrod Brown, for their attempts to prevent the construction of the border wall. Trump said that Brown "does not think the way we think" about border security, and offered his "full support" to Republican Jim Rennacci, who is running for state in the Senate.

In recent weeks, Trump has stepped up criticism of illegal immigration, especially after migrant caravan participants began to seek asylum in the United States. He also ordered the National Guard to deploy troops on the US-Mexico border in order to resolve what the president calls the “crisis situation” that has developed there.
