From September 19, Twitter will change the rules for counting characters in tweets

From September 19, Twitter will change the character count when writing a tweet.

Added media files (photos, videos, gifs, polls) and references to other users at the beginning of the message will no longer be counted in the 140 tweet symbols, writes The Verge.

Also, the microblog will remove the restriction on commenting when quoting a tweet (now only 116 characters are available for this).

It is not yet known whether the restrictions will be lifted simultaneously or gradually, starting from 19 September.

The restriction in 140 characters was introduced since the company was founded in 2006, after which there were many promises from the owners of the company to increase the number of characters, but so far they have not been realized.

Of the innovations promised in May of 2016, only the opportunity to retweet own records was implemented.
