US presidential candidates suspend election campaigns on 11 September

US presidential candidates decided to suspend their campaigns on September 11, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.

This decision was the answer to petition American Alice Hoagland, who lost her son in an airplane that 11 terrorists on September 2001 sent to the Capitol, but they were stopped by passengers.

As of 10 September, more 27 thousands of users have signed the petition.

“I lost my son Mark Bingham on 9/11. He died in the United Airlines Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania. Mark and a group of other passengers burst into the cockpit, they fought the hijackers and prevented the terrorists from striking their intended target - the Capitol in Washington, DC. Although Mark and the rest of the passengers died that day, they likely saved many others,” the woman wrote in the petition.

She added that on 15, the anniversary of the tragedy, there were 2 things that Americans will never forget: how beautiful and fragile life is; as a healing spirit of unity and compassion united the nation for several days after the attack.

In memory of the thousands who died that day, as well as the unity of the nation, a woman called on presidential candidates to stop the campaign for a day and adhere to the regime of “political silence”.

Later it became known that the main contenders for the presidency: Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gil Stein and Gary Johnson supported this idea and intend to suspend the campaign.
