American woman disappeared during a vacation in Mexico

A US citizen who went hiking in San Felipe, Mexico, went missing.

68-year-old Kat Hammontr went camping with a group near the desert in the Mexican state of Baha-California, but in the middle of the road hurt her leg and told the others that she would remain in place and wait for their return.

When the group returned from a short hike, neither Hammont nor her dogs were there.

Her husband, Warren Sundquist, who was waiting in the car, said that she, too, did not return to the car. The search for women was carried out by both local groups and the Mexican military.

“When they returned about 90 minutes later, she had disappeared. There were no traces of her or the dog, no signs of an attack by wild animals,” said Hammonter’s friend Victoria Langsett.

Hammontre is a Seattle native who has lived in Mexico for the past two decades. She writes a blog called Kat's Korner and teaches English to Mexican children. She returned to Seattle often to visit family and friends.

Hammontre's daughter, Desiree Blair, who lives in Spokane, Wash., Described her mother as an experienced traveler and tough person.

She said that her mother smoked, and if she had lost her way, she probably would have made a fire to attract the attention of rescuers.

Blair added that she was going to San Felipe to take part in the search. The husband of the woman is also involved in the search operation.
