Winter storm covered California: roads are blocked, a child was saved from a snowdrift for an hour

On January 27, firefighters were called to a home in the Seren Lakes, California area at about 19:00 pm due to the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy. The inhabitants of the Sierra County were covered by a winter storm. Writes about it KCRA.

The family said that the last time they saw the boy was in a snow cave he dug outside the house.

When the family was looking for the boy, they noticed that the snow on the roof had slipped off, so they called 911 and started digging.

The family dug for about 15 minutes before rescuers arrived. The brigades joined forces and tracked down the boy half an hour later.

After they found him, it took the firefighters another 20 minutes to get him out. Officials said the boy had been under the snow for at least an hour and was expected to be healthy.

Road closure

This week's winter storm continues to harass drivers in Sierra County, prompting the closure of I-80 and calls for drivers to postpone their trips.

Just after noon on Thursday, January 28, the California Department of Transportation posted a video on Twitter showing conditions on I-80.

“We continue to recommend postponing travel until Friday if possible,” the tweet read.

Eastward traffic on I-80 was blocked.

I-80 was closed eastbound at Colfax and westbound at the Nevada state line.

It is not yet clear when the roadway will open.

Meanwhile, on Highway 50, the department blocked traffic in both directions due to an avalanche. Traffic on East Highway 50 was stopped shortly thereafter due to drivers trying to enter South Lake Tahoe.

“Expect long delays if you need to travel today,” the department warned.
