A journalist writing about Russian mercenaries in Syria died suspiciously after falling from the fifth floor
Russian journalist Maxim Borodin, who recently wrote about the death of Russian mercenaries in Syria, died after falling from the balcony of his apartment in Yekaterinburg, located on the fifth floor.
32-year-old man was found on the sidewalk, he was taken to hospital with serious injuries, from which he died a few days later, writes Voice of America.
The local police did not see any signs of a crime in the incident, however, the friends and colleagues of the journalist suspect that the fall might not have been accidental.
“This can only be linked to one thing - Maxim’s journalistic activities. He is a fairly well-known crime journalist in Yekaterinburg,” said Vyacheslav Bashkov, a friend of the deceased.
Bashkov said that Borodin called him on April 11 on 5 in the morning, fearing that he would be searched, writes МК.
“Maxim said that there was a man with a weapon on his balcony and that he saw people in camouflage and masks on the landing,” said a friend of the deceased.
However, after an hour and a half, the journalist called Bashkov back and declared that he was wrong.
“He apologized and said that he had made a mistake - there were supposedly some kind of exercises going on,” Bashkov added.
Borodin regularly covered high-profile corruption cases and crimes in Russia. In February, 2018, he wrote an article about Russian mercenaries who died in an armed clash with American forces in the Deir ez-Zor area in Syria.
