Brooklyn resident arrested for trying to impersonate deceased notary
In Brooklyn, a landlord impersonating a deceased notary, using the official seal and the signature of another person in court documents in a lawsuit against tenants, writes New York Post.
Abdus Shaheed faked almost 30 documents using the identity of the last public notary, Yitzhok Ring, who died in October 2014 of the year to file civil claims against his tenants, claiming that they had damaged his property.
Currently, Shahid has been charged with 28 document fraud points, 28 cases of filing a false document and 28 cases of knowingly false statement.
64-year-old Shahid, who owns real estate on 455 Tompkins Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, he filed documents against his tenants after they had summoned 311 to complain about his property, prosecutors said.
“This defendant attempted to defraud the court by using someone else’s identity for his nefarious business plans,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “I am committed to protecting the rights of [Brooklyn] residents.”
On Friday, Shahid was prosecuted and released on bail.
