Florida woman shot dead in front of her children during Zoom class

A Florida woman was killed while her 10-year-old daughter was taking an online lesson at Zoom. The incident was witnessed by the teacher on the other side of the screen, as well as six children who were present in the house, writes Air force.

The shooting took place on Tuesday, August 11, at 08:00 local time in Indianown, Florida, police said.

Florida is one of the US states hardest hit by coronavirus. More than 542 thousand cases of infection were recorded here. Therefore, many schools have switched to online learning.

Donald Williams, 27, was arrested after he fled the scene by bicycle.

According to the county sheriff, 32-year-old Maribel Rosado Morales was killed in front of her four children and two younger cousins.

At a press conference, Sheriff William Snyder said Williams had come to talk to his ex-girlfriend about a Facebook video.

The teacher, he said, “heard noise and profanity and realized it was a domestic dispute.”

The teacher said he turned off the sound to prevent the other children from hearing the scandal. After that, he saw a 10-year-old girl covering her ears with her hands.

He added that the screen immediately went dark after the child's reaction, because, as it later turned out, a bullet had hit the computer.

Donald Williams fled the scene of the crime on a bicycle, and then boarded a city bus. After he demanded that the driver take him to an area that is not on the bus route, he called the police.

Williams has fully admitted his guilt, sheriff said.

He was charged with murder and several other criminal offenses, in particular, illegal possession of weapons.

The sheriff said Williams was also charged with armed burglary and armed home invasion. In addition, there may be additional penalties for the presence of children during a crime.

The Florida Department of Children and Families will be tasked with finding new families for the victim's children, who are between 10 and 17 years old, investigators said.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s family, including the children who were in the home to witness this senseless tragedy,” Warfield Elementary School and the school district said in a statement. “We stand ready to offer support and help in any way we can.”
