A resident of South Carolina died after an alligator attack: he continued to throw himself at her body while they tried to resuscitate her

In South Carolina, a woman died after being attacked by an alligator on Hilton Head while walking her dog. WFLA.

On July 4, police responded to a call in Spanish Wells for a report of an alligator attack just before 9:30 a.m.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a 69-year-old resident of the village unconscious on the edge of the lagoon.

While crews were working to rescue the woman, an alligator appeared and interrupted emergency services. He blocked access to the victim's body. The alligator was safely removed from the scene, and access to the woman's body was opened.

Officers say the woman was walking her dog when the attack took place. It is not clear where the alligator dragged her underwater.

The identity of the victim has not been released, and the Beaufort County coroner is scheduled to perform an autopsy.

A week before alligator attacked a fisherman on the island of Hilton Head, not far from Spanish Wells. The man was not injured, but authorities banned fishing in the area during the summer.

This is the second fatal alligator attack in Beaufort County in less than a year, the most recent in August 2022 in Sun City, where an 88-year-old woman died.
