A resident of St. Petersburg, died trying to eat his tablet

A St. Petersburg resident died after he began to eat broken glass from his tablet during his detention, the regional police said on Monday.

“The police received a report that an unknown person was throwing things out of the window of one of the apartments at building 11 on Nikolai Rubtsov Street. A local police officer was sent to the indicated address... There was a 41-year-old unemployed man in the apartment, who actively resisted during the arrest attempt, after which he behaved inappropriately and began to demonstratively eat broken glass and plastic parts of his tablet,” the release says.

The district police officer stopped these actions, while “receiving bodily injuries,” and called an ambulance. The man, meanwhile, lost consciousness and died before paramedics arrived.

The police officer received the necessary medical assistance, an official check is being conducted.
