A single ticket sold in California matched all six Monday numbers to make it the proud owner of a nearly $ 700 million Powerball jackpot, officials said.

“California, we have a winner! Congratulations to our lucky Morro Bay player who matched 6/6 numbers and won the $ 699,8 million Powerball jackpot in the draw on Monday 4th October. Thanks to all of our players who played, ”California Lottery tweeted.

The winning numbers were 12, 22, 54, 66, 69 and the Powerball was 15. The Power Play was 2.

According to Powerball, the odds of winning the top prize were only 1 in 292,2 million.

And you are twice as likely to be killed by a vending machine.

After rising to $ 699,8 million, the jackpot became the seventh largest in US lottery history. Since June 5, no one has won the main prize of the game.

The winner will be able to choose between an annual payment over 29 years, or a one-time payment of $ 496 million. Both prizes are tax deductible.

Five tickets were sold with a prize of $ 1 million; two in Massachusetts and one each in Virginia, Florida and Arizona.

According to Powerball, the last jackpot hit in early June, when a $ 285,6 million ticket was sold in Florida. Since then, there have been 40 draws in a row without the main prize.

"More than 90 percent of the time, we expect the Powerball top prize to be won on or before the 40th drawing," the Interstate Lottery Association told USA TODAY. “Each jackpot cycle is unique and depends on sales and the current interest rate.”

Many tickets in recent weeks have matched the numbers required to claim the smaller prizes. On Saturday, one ticket sold in Massachusetts matched the $ 1 million prize, and 66 tickets matched the $ 50 prize.

According to Powerball, the overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24,9.

"Players should check their tickets carefully because even if they didn't win the jackpot, they could have won a lower-tier prize," Sheve Reardon said.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
