California resident told how he survived and where he hid during a fire in which all his friends died.

58-year-old Greg Woodcox from Paradise, California, was the only survivor of a group of friends trying to evacuate through a wall of fire on Thursday morning. The whole city was swept from the face of the earth by a terrible forest fire.

Woodcox said that in the morning he was leaving the dog walking area when he saw the fire that bears on the city with a strong wind. The man jumped into his SUV and went to warn people, writes The Daily Mail. First, he went to his adult son, then to his ex-wife, and after that he reported about the impending catastrophe to his partially paralyzed friend who lived with his mother.

"I said, 'Leave!' You will die if you don’t leave!” Woodcox admitted to reporters. - I did everything I could. I dragged one of them into the car."

Woodcox and the people he managed to warn drove down the road from the city, but one of the cars got stuck on the road, creating a trap for the rest. By the time Woodcox realized in smoke and fire that no one was driving behind him, the fire had already reached the cars.

He said that he managed to take cover by following the fox - he saw the animal running along a path and leading him into a deep stream in a ravine. He was submerged in water for 45 minutes while a fire burned above him. The man described the experience as “the hottest bath I’ve ever taken.”

When it was all over, Woodcox walked up the hillside, where he found his partially melted SUV and his two Chihuahua dogs in the back seat, both alive. Just 35 meters away was what was left of the cars caught in the fire trap. They contained the charred remains of five of his friends - they became the first victims of the fire.

Woodcox took everything he saw on his mobile phone. A video of his nephew posted the next day on YouTube. Many surviving residents of the city, including, found it too "insensible" and wrong that the man posted the video in open access. But there are those, including firefighters, who think: it’s necessary to show this, especially if it seems to you that you shouldn’t evacuate and “somehow carry it through.

This is too scary footage with a series of warnings and restrictions to show it to a wide range of viewers, so the editors decided not to include it in the publication.
