A resident of Dallas sued the employer $ 1 million due to a contract signed on a napkin

Dallas resident Jonathan Kolniak sued a former employer James Balenghi a million dollars, based on a contract that they made on a paper napkin during a party.

The essence of the contract was that Balengi would transfer to Kolniak 2% of the shares of his company Bridger Logistics, which is engaged in the supply of crude oil, the amount of the value of the shares was about 9 million dollars, writes TJ.

Balengi and Kolniak entered into an agreement in 2015 year. The name of the company was not indicated on the napkin, however, it was said about 2% of the shares, as well as the salary of Colniac - 100 thousand dollars a year. In addition, there was a signature Balengi. The employee's lawyer said that, by agreement, he had to help prepare the company for sale, after which he would receive an 2% stake.

Kolniak fulfilled his part of the contract - and the company was sold that same year for $820 million. After that, the value of the 2% stake rose to $9,35 million.

Later, Colniac agreed with the employer that he would receive 2 a million dollars for the sale. However, at the time of the termination of his work, Kolniak received only 400 thousand dollars, so in March 2017 he went to court.

"Balenghi and the company insisted that there was no contract in the first place and that they should not pay anything. This led to the lawsuit,” said lawyer Kolniak.

Balenga's defense argued that the agreement, signed on a napkin, was "pointless and incomplete" and was signed as a result of "a night of drinking." In addition, according to the defense, the name of the company was not specified in the contract, and this could mean that Kolniak demanded 2% of the shares of another organization. However, the court satisfied Kolniak’s demands and now he will receive a million dollars. This, of course, is not the 9 million he initially expected, but better than nothing.
