Florence victims: during the evacuation, a car with psychiatric hospital patients drowned

A police van carrying two related mental illness patients hit the a flooding in South Carolina on the evening of September 18, leading to the death of both patients, because the police could not free them.

According to the police, the van tried to cross the flooded part of the highway number XXUMX in Marion County when it was demolished, writes The New York Post.

Both victims were female and were tied at the back of the van. Law enforcement officers carrying them managed to escape, but the women could not get out of the car.

The policemen tried to help the victims, but could not open the door of the van, because the water around the car was rising too fast.

The South Carolina Justice Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The policemen planned to leave the patients in the nearby hospitals and rode near the River Little Pi-Dee, whose level had risen rapidly.

After this incident, the number of deaths due to Hurricane Florence reached 37 people.
