Abby Landy from Australia discovered her HIV infection after reading information about the virus on the Internet after the doctor refused to prescribe her HIV test, since the risk of contracting this virus for a heterosexual woman from Australia is extremely low.

After breaking up with her boyfriend and sms from him with the phrase: “I hope you will remember me forever,” Abby decided to check her health, because she started a new relationship. The doctor did several tests, prescribed her treatment for herpes and refused to take an HIV test, because the woman was not at risk. Googling information about the disease, Abby concluded that the risk of having HIV in her blood was very high, she returned to the hospital and insisted on analysis.

She was called through 3 of the day and was told that she was HIV-infected.

For several years now, Australian human rights defenders have been sounding the alarm that the country is being tested for HIV mostly by homosexual men who are at risk of being infected with this virus. Therefore, many women do not even know that they are carriers of HIV, and if they realize, they prefer to hide it because of discrimination in society.

“Australians believe that HIV is a disease of homosexual men, and if a woman catches the virus, then she is considered a whore, although this is not the case,” Lendi said.

According to her, she managed to avoid discrimination due to openness, she is not afraid to talk about her illness and is not ashamed of having become a HIV-positive.
