A woman made a payment from a former husband for child support through 50 years after a divorce

A Californian resident got through the court compensation from her ex-husband in the amount of 150 000 dollars for unpaid child support for a child, almost 50 years after he left the family.

73-year-old Tony Anderson, a former interior designer from Carlsbad, said she raised her daughter, who is now 52, herself, because her husband Donald Alan Lenhart left them when the girl was very young, writes NBC News.

Anderson said that Lenhart moved to Canada and did not make any payments to support the child, despite a court order on child support.

To make ends meet, the woman worked two jobs and received food stamps. Years later, according to her, she realized that her ex-husband should compensate for child support, which he declined to pay.

Anderson suspected that by this time Lenhart could return to the United States. Thus, she took the initial court decision on alimony from 1970 of the year and went to the office of the Alimony Service of San Diego County, where, according to federal tax reports, it was established that Lenhart lives in Oregon.

He was handed a subpoena, and to the surprise of the woman, he appeared at the meeting.

“I didn’t expect him to show up. I was shocked to see him,” Anderson admitted.

According to the lawyers of both parties, Lenhart did not have to be present at the hearings and could instruct his lawyer to deal with this issue.

Anderson asked him why her ex-husband decided to come to court in person, and his answer surprised her.

“Because I have to ask your forgiveness,” he said. Because of this, Anderson said, they both had tears in their eyes.

According to the lawyers of both parties, the main amount of Lenhart's alimony was 35 000 dollars, which in the amount of interest and penalties amounted to 160 000 dollars. The parties agreed on 150 000 dollars, and Lenhart has two years to pay this amount.

According to the man’s lawyer, Lenhart did not pay alimony for all these years, believing that he and his wife in 1970 had entered into an agreement on an out-of-court decision that freed him from any payments.

“I was pleased to pay Ms. Anderson the child support I owed, and I wish her the best in the future,” Lenhart said in a statement released by his lawyer.

Anderson's daughter, Lane Lenhart, also an interior designer, said she was touched by the reaction of social networks to solving her mother's case. According to her, the information was commented by many lonely parents, faced with similar situations.
