The wife of the US Treasury Secretary is at the center of a scandal over an expensive scarf

Scottish actress Louise Linton, who is the wife of the head of the US Department of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, got into a scandal because of expensive clothes, writes The Hill.

The actress posted in Instagram a photo of her husband and Senate leader Mitchum McConnell, accompanied by hashtags with the names of expensive brands she wears: #rolandmouret, #hermesscarf, #tomford and #valentino.

Mentioning expensive brands was considered by commentators to be an inappropriate boast for a spouse of high-ranking politician who was on a business trip.

"Please do not mention the scarf Hermès. Bad taste, ”wrote one of the commentators.

“We’re glad we paid for your little vacation,” another user commented on the snapshot.

In response, Linton said that it was not a private trip, and that she herself and her husband made a greater contribution to the US economy in the form of taxes than the readers who criticized her.

“You think this was a personal trip?!” Charming! Do you think the government paid for our honeymoon or we ourselves?! Have you contributed more to the economy than me and my husband? As a sole proprietor in the form of taxes or in the form of self-sacrifice in your country? I'm sure we paid more taxes for 'our trip' than you did. I am sure that the amount we donate per year is much more than you would be willing to donate if the choice was yours. Thanks for the passive-aggressive nasty comment... Sending me a passive-aggressive comment will not make your life better. Have a nice evening. Go chill out and watch the new Game of Thrones. This is amazing,” the actress wrote.

After that, the woman transferred her account to private mode, closing access to it.

A spokesman for the Department of Finance explained that Mnuchin had received all the necessary permits for this trip, and that the spouses themselves had paid the cost of the Linton trip. The Department stressed that the spouse Mnuchina received no financial compensation for mentioning fashion brands in Instagram.

Mnuchin and Linton got married in the summer of 2017. The US Treasury Secretary is a former film producer and lover of science fiction and fantasy.
