New York DMV officials want to let themselves decide whether to grant rights to illegal immigrants

Republican Party New York lawmakers have drafted a bill proposing legal protection for members of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) if they refuse to issue driving licenses to illegal immigrants, thereby violating the state's Green Light Act passed in June.

New York State Senate Republican Leader John Flanagan introduced a bill that would protect Department of Motor Vehicle employees from prosecution if they refused to issue a driver’s license to illegal immigrants. This bill will allow officials to defend themselves if the state sues them for refusing to issue illegal licenses to drivers. This will also protect them from being fired, as employees did not violate federal laws. Indeed, at the state level, the issuance of a driver’s license to illegal immigrants is illegal.

Recall, according to the Green Light Act, passed by the New York State Legislature and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on June 17, illegal immigrants in the region are allowed to obtain a driver’s license. The law allows the governor to remove the district clerk from office if he refuses to give out rights to illegal immigrants. Supporters argue that the law will improve road safety and ensure the development of the state economy.

However, the controversial law outraged DMV officials throughout the state, some of whom sued the federal court, claiming that the document was contrary to federal policy.

“Senator Sepulveda, a member of the Crespo Parliament, has drafted a bill that is really friendly and really useful to illegal immigrants. But it doesn’t help taxpayers, it doesn’t help law-abiding citizens, ” — said Flanagan, presenting his bill.
