Zelensky wrote an open letter to Putin, inviting him to meet and discuss peace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 4 published an open letter, addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he proposed holding a meeting between the two leaders to work out conditions for ending the war, reports ReutersHe warned that Kyiv was prepared to continue military action if an agreement was not reached.

In a letter that the Ukrainian presidential office said was also sent to other countries, including the United States, Zelenskyy stated that most Russians are tired of Ukrainian missile and drone strikes, inflation, and fuel shortages, and that, overall, Russians are ready for peace.

Zelensky noted that since the US is currently focused on the conflict with Iran, "it would be wrong to simply wait until the war in Europe returns to the center of their attention."

According to him, the path to peace must begin at the frontline—"the very point from which diplomacy must begin." Ukraine, Zelenskyy emphasized, advocates "a complete ceasefire during the negotiations. This is standard practice."

He added that the US "has the capacity to monitor the ceasefire along the line where the fighting stops."

Zelenskyy proposed setting a date for the meeting in advance and noted that a number of countries "traditionally host leaders to resolve issues of war and peace," mentioning Switzerland, Turkey, and Arab states.

"Don't be afraid to take the path out of this war. That's the most important thing required of you now," Zelensky wrote.

"Ukraine proposes ending this war through direct contact between us—and you. I propose a meeting... Unless you personally conclude that the time has come to end this war, Ukraine will continue to fight for its existence."

Zelensky also made it clear that the continuation of the war could also affect Putin’s personal positions. These are the facts of Russian history, as you well know: when Russia is turned on, changes are expected.

"It is a fact of Russian history that you know well: when Russia gets tired, change comes."

The Kremlin stated that Zelensky's letter had been received and that Vladimir Putin would be informed about it.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha wrote on the social media site X that the letter would be sent officially through diplomatic channels. He called it "a serious and meaningful proposal to end the war... with clear, implementable steps and an invitation to a personal meeting."

"We expect a substantive response to this proposal. It's time to end the war. It's time to choose peace," Sibiga said.
