The President of Ukraine expressed his conviction that the Crimea will soon return to Ukraine. The Kremlin immediately rushed to answer Zelensky.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky during a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will first of all raise the issue of the occupied territories - the Crimea and Donbass, writes UNIAN.

When asked by a journalist from the German publication Bild what he would tell Putin during his first personal meeting, Zelensky replied: “Let’s start with the fact that Donbass and Crimea are Ukraine.”

The head of the Ukrainian state is convinced that the Crimea is not lost by Ukraine forever and he will soon return.

“Crimea is Ukraine. And we hope he returns soon. I love Crimea very much. I've been there many times. This is a unique place in Ukraine with its nature and history. It has always been and remains a part of Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.

The Kremlin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will find something to respond to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the words about the Ukrainian Crimea, if a meeting of the two heads of state takes place.

This was stated by the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov.

“We saw these words of the President of Ukraine, which he said in one of the interviews. I have no doubt that President Putin always starts conversations with the right phrases. If such communication ever takes place, I have no doubt that he will also start with the right phrase,” Peskov said, answering the question of what Putin would answer to Zelensky’s first words.

At the same time, he stressed that in part of the Donbass "this should be said not to Putin, but to the residents of Donbass".

“There’s not much to say about Crimea,” Peskov added.

5 June Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the meeting of the presidents will take place when Kiev fulfills the agreements reached in the "Norman format."

• Recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin 24 April signed a decree simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk.
• According to the decree, they will be able to receive it within three months after submitting the application.
• Ukraine appealed to the UN Security Council in connection with the decision of the President of Russia, and also informed the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Ukraine’s international partners to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation.
• Zelensky reacted and stated that he would not advise the Russian authorities to waste time trying to tempt citizens of Ukraine with passports of the Russian Federation.
