Anastasia Zavorotnyuk, star of the TV series 'My Fair Nanny', has died
Russian theater and film actress, TV presenter Anastasia Zavorotnyuk died after a long illness, reports with the BBC.
53-year-old Zavorotnyuk, as reported by the media, was struggling with cancer. Since August 2019, she has stopped participating in theatrical productions.
The television series “My Fair Nanny” brought enormous popularity to the artist. In total, Zavorotnyuk played over 40 roles in films and television.

The actress was born in 1971 in Astrakhan. Her mother is People's Artist of the RSFSR Valentina Zavorotnyuk, she worked in the Astrakhan Youth Theater, and her father was a television director.
Anastasia Zavorotnyuk graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School (course of Avangard Leontyev), in 1993–2004 she was an actress in the studio theater under the direction of Oleg Tabakov, played there in 29 performances, and came to cinema in 1991, playing the main role in the film “Mashenka” by novel by Vladimir Nabokov.
On Russian television, Zavorotnyuk hosted several programs, including the shows “Dancing with the Stars,” “Dancing on Ice” and “Ice Age.”
The most wonderful nanny
The comedy series “My Fair Nanny,” which made the artist famous, was filmed in 2004-2008.
“The success was overwhelming. Somewhat incredible. Absolutely popular. In Russia. In Ukraine. Throughout the former USSR. All over the world, where people who understand Russian live,” producer and film director Alexander Rodnyansky wrote on Instagram. - We looked everywhere - both in villages and cities. Everyone watched - workers, university teachers, adults, and children. The children of friends asked to come to the set, the oligarchs laughed about what they were watching before going to bed, the ratings went through the roof.”
Rodnyansky adapted an American series for the Russian TV channel STS and the Ukrainian channel “1+1”.
“We decided to make the adaptation around the relationship between a witty, charming Ukrainian woman and a handsome, indecisive and successful Muscovite who does not travel beyond the Garden Ring,” recalled Rodnyansky.
According to him, in search of the main character of “My Fair Nanny,” “they looked at more than 900 candidates” before Zavorotnyuk came.
“In life, she was not at all like her heroine, except for her sincere spontaneity. Originally from Astrakhan, she came to the audition accompanied by her husband, who was afraid to let her go,” the producer noted.
Terrible disease
The artist’s serious illness became known in 2019. Relatives later confirmed that she was being treated for glioblastoma (a serious cancer).

“It’s impossible to comprehend and very difficult to find the right words. “Tonight, after a long and serious illness, our Nastya passed away,” says a message on the actress’s page on the VKontakte social network. And Rodnyansky wrote that Zavorotnyuk became “a symbol of childhood for a whole generation.”
Zavorotnyuk has three children left. The actress's youngest daughter was born in the fall of 2018.
