Foreign manufacturers of Russian processors 'Elbrus' and 'Baikal' refused to make them: the Russian Federation may be left without computers

Foreign manufacturers that produce processors for Russia according to the documentation provided by the country refused to fulfill orders in 2022, as well as to supply already manufactured products, reports Voice of America.

This year, according to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev, 15 PCs and 8 servers based on Russian processors were produced.

“We would have much more this year if those batches of Russian processors, Elbrus, Baikal, which were ordered and produced, were shipped. Intellectual rights and all documentation are Russian, but, based on topological norms, there are no such production facilities in Russia, and all this was ordered from foreign factories,” Shadayev said during a joint meeting of the State Duma control and information policy committees.

After the outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine, Russian processor manufacturers fell under a series of economic sanctions from the United States, the European Union and other countries.

So in mid-September, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on a number of Russian IT companies, including Baikal Electronics and MCST (produces Elbrus processors). There is a complete ban on transactions with them. The United States also periodically imposes sanctions on companies that were created to place orders with foreign factories.
