Infected with dangerous parasites: 30 states recall packaged salad

According to the CDC, bagged salad company Fresh Express has voluntarily recalled several of its products due to possible contamination with Cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that causes intestinal diseases. Fox Business.

As early as June 22, it became known that more than 200 people from Midwestern states, such as Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, got infected with cyclospore and got sick, according to FDA reports. This led to widespread recall of Fresh Express salad sets, the product code of which begins with the letter Z. Salad sets containing iceberg salad, red cabbage or carrots with product code Z178 or a lower number were also withdrawn.

Representatives of Fresh Express said they notified customers about the recall and instructed them to abandon the purchased product, according to a press release. Refunds can be obtained by calling the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at toll free number (800) 242-5472.

Fresh Express products were sold at selected retail stores between June 6 and 26 in these states: Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.

The recall also applies to salad bowls produced by Fresh Express for other brands: Aldi's Little Salad Bar and Hy-Vee's namesake salad brand. Other notable brands include Giant Eagle, Marketside, Signature Farms and Wholesome Pantry. Full list of products with digital batch codes - at this link.
