For spitting in the face of a Ukrainian, the court ordered an Oregon resident to write an essay on the difficulties of immigrants
The judge ordered a homeless Oregon resident who spat in the face of a Ukrainian immigrant to write an essay on the difficulties of immigrants.
In August, a homeless resident spat during a quarrel over rubbish in the face of a Ukrainian and told him to “return to his country,” writes Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Now, the judge ordered Harold Eugene Denson III to complete an essay from 500 by March about the experiences and difficulties of East European immigrants arriving in the United States by March.
“I ask you to put yourself in their shoes,” Multnomah County District Judge Christopher Ramras said.

If he fails to complete the essay or Ramras finds the result unacceptable, Denson faces additional jail time, in addition to the 90 days that he has already been sentenced for the incident.
"This is a unique resolution to a very serious incident," Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Nicole Hermann said.
"Mr. Denson must understand the impact his actions had on the victim and our immigrant communities," Herman said. “This is an opportunity for him to reconcile his behavior through compassion, education and understanding.”
If Denson satisfactorily completes the composition, the judge will drop the charge of bias in this case.
“I appreciate the opportunity to write an essay instead of piling up charges,” Denson said.
The incident occurred on 25 August when Denson reported KATU2, scattered trash at a local car dealership, and spilled the contents of the aluminum cans he collected. The salon manager, a Ukrainian immigrant, came up to him with a trash bag and told the homeless to clean up after him.

At one point, Denson told the manager to "go back to your country" and then spat in his face. He also told the owner that his car dealership was on “American soil” and did not belong to him, and then threatened him with a knife.
Denson did not dispute the allegations.
