What posts and memes in Russia can go to jail

One of the distinguishing features of the modern law enforcement system in Russia is criminal cases under the 282 article of the Criminal Code (“Incitement of hatred or enmity”) for pictures on social networks; usually in VKontakte. Often, Internet users are punished because of memes that seem offensive to someone.

Moscow microblogger Anatoly Kapustin started a twitter “Text memes for which you sit down” (there are no commas in its name), where he puts quotes from real-life criminal cases, writes Medusa.

Kapustin claims that the creation of an account was prompted by a description of a meme about candles in a church, for the publication of which the case under the article 282 was brought to Maria Barnaul, a resident of Barnaul (it will be judged in August 2018).

In the account most often memes are found on the subject of religion; besides, there are jokes about racism and descriptions of Adolf Hitler’s images.

Kapustin also created a set of stickers for the telegram with text descriptions of "extremist" pictures.

A week ago we wrote about a similar incident: Russian woman kept pictures with memes and received two criminal articles. Maria Motuznaya, a resident of Barnaul, became a defendant in criminal cases about extremism and insulting the feelings of believers after she kept several pictures with memes on the page on VKontakte. This 23-year-old Russian woman told in her Twitter account, attaching a photo of the relevant court order.

The girl added that the court hearing is scheduled for August 6. “Before me, the agenda was taken for robbery. And I. For the pictures. I still do not believe, for the life of me, ”she wrote. Victims in the case no one is listed.
