What New Yorkers love and hate their city

New York is recognized as the best city in the world when it comes to spending free time, but it is not at all suitable for dating.

This opinion was expressed by New Yorkers in a survey conducted by Time-out among the residents of 18, the largest cities in the world, in total, about 20 thousands of people were surveyed.

Survey participants gave New York 4 a place among the best cities to live in (it was only ahead of Chicago, Melbourne and Lisbon).

Respondents were asked to answer questions about their cities, divided into several categories, including dynamism, inspiration, food and drink in the city, assessment of friendliness and sociability of its inhabitants, as well as affordability of prices.

New York is leading in terms of high-quality restaurants, cultural events and inspiration, but the availability of all this leaves much to be desired, according to residents of the metropolis.

General survey results

More than half of the respondents said they feel lonely, only 10% believe that in New York they just make friends, and only 4% of the respondents believe in the opportunity to find love in the city.

82% of city residents said that in New York there is always something to do and try something new.

60% of respondents believe that the city is constantly getting better and is developing in the right direction.

77% said that New York is the best city for culture and art lovers, there is always something to see.

However, only 11% of respondents said that they can afford to live the life they want, just 4% of New Yorkers believe that they don’t need a lot of money to live in this city.

67% of the inhabitants of the metropolis consider it very loyal and tolerant to different people and cultures.

Only 9% of respondents called life in New York easy, but at the same time 55% of residents consider this city to be inspiring.

33% of New Yorkers said they were stressed at work, and 10% used antidepressants—more than any other city in the survey.

81% of respondents said that they love to walk in their city, it is more than in any other metropolis that participated in the survey. 60% of New Yorkers noted that many interesting places and entertainment can be found near their home.

If the residents of New York had a Goldfish, they would have made these three wishes:

• substantial salary increase;
• more athletic body;
• extra work day per week.
