The new Hollywood film "Man on the Moon", telling about the landing of the first people on the Earth satellite, angered the American critics and journalists who accuse the creators of the film in the absence of patriotism, because the film landed on the Moon without using the US flag.

Back in 2003, Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros. purchased the rights to adapt the biography of Neil Armstrong "The First Man: The Life of Neil O. Armstrong", written by James R. Hansen. Later, the rights to the film were purchased by Universal Pictures.

Filming

The launch of the project was announced in 2015 year. Then it became known that Damien Chazell will become the director of the film, and the main role will be played by Ryan Gosling.

Shazell, who received the Oscar for the director of La La Land, became the youngest winner in this nomination, and today is considered one of the brightest figures in Hollywood.

Almost the same can be said about Gosling, the winner of the Golden Globe and the two-time Oscar nominee for the best male role.

The main filming period was in October 2017 and was completed in February 2018.

The mass viewer of the film has not yet seen - the premiere in the United States is scheduled for October 12, Europe and the post-Soviet countries "Man on the Moon" will get only in November.

But the picture opened the 75-th Venice Festival, which allowed critics and journalists to make an impression of it. And they saw a disaster in the film.

The Washington Times has released material in which the journalist Cheryl Chumley to torn apart the authors, declaring the picture "slap in the face of American society." The slap, in her opinion, is that the authors did not include in the film the moment of installation of the US flag on the Moon.

“From a historical point of view, removing the American flag from the very scene that screams American exclusivity during the Cold War race with evil Soviets means not only insulting those who are associated with this patriotic moment in time, but also practically present the present of Russia” - says the material.

“It was a day when the achievements of American greatness turned out to be on a general review so that the whole world could see and recognize them,” says Chumley.

It got from a journalist and Ryan Gosling, who said that landing on the moon is an achievement of all mankind. Chumley noted that the actor says so because she is Canadian and would like to see “America’s achievements spread just to the north.”

The outrage was not limited to the publication of the Washington Times. Florida Senator Marco Rubio declared the painting "total madness." According to the politician, Americans need to be reminded of what they can achieve through their money and teamwork. “It was not a UN mission,” he stressed.

The editor of the Weekly Standard edition, Bill Kristol, declared the film “stupid and pernicious falsification of history” and advised the authors, if they do not want to lose the audience, immediately turn the flag scene into the film.

88-year-old astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a member of the legendary landing, joined the ranks of critics. In a microblog Twitter, he posted photos of the installation of the US flag on the lunar surface, accompanied by their hashtags "freedom", "honor", "proud to be American."

But the sons of Neil Armstrong, the first person to set foot on the Moon, sided with the filmmakers, noting that the plot is built around little-known or completely unknown moments of the mission, and therefore the popular moment of the flag installation does not fit the idea of ​​the picture. About the same spoke and director Damien Chazell. Armstrong himself died in 2012 year.

So far, however, the voices of the defenders of the film sound much quieter than the indignant cries of those who saw in “Man on the Moon” the denial of American pride. The latter may not know what was written on the tablet that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left at the landing site. The text reads: “Here, people from planet Earth first set foot on the moon. July 1969 year of our era. We came in peace in the name of all mankind. ”
