YouTube charged with illegally collecting information about 23 million children
The Center for Digital Democracy and another 19 privacy advocacy groups have appealed to the US Federal Trade Commission to investigate YouTube.

The complaint states that the subsidiary Google violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). According to the norms of this law, the collection of data on children younger than 13 years can be carried out only after obtaining the consent of their parents. Lawyers claim that YouTube for several years violated the rights of more than 23 million children.

“Although we received no complaints, the protection of children and families has always been a priority for us. We will carefully examine it and assess whether we can improve something, ”said the representative. YouTube adding that for children the company has created a special platform YouTube Kids.
According to the rules YouTube, the site can register people older than 13. However, this does not prevent children from simply putting a tick in front of the line “I'm more 13 years old” and creating an account.
