For the court: the researchers found new evidence of Russia's participation in the battles in the Donbass

A group of British researchers Forensic Architecture published proof of participation of the Russian army in the battles in the east of Ukraine, in particular - in the battle of Ilovaisk. Researchers were asked to collect this evidence at the European Center for Human Rights, reports “Currently,".

“Using machine learning and computer vision, using the work of dozens of open source researchers, reporters and the media, Forensic Architecture has assembled the most comprehensive collection of evidence of the presence of Russian military and equipment on the battlefield,” the study's website says.

Among the published evidence is the multitude of satellite photographs of Russian military convoys in Ukraine and the footage of the T-72B3 tanks, a new model that only Russia had at that time.

They trained the computer how to recognize tanks on video, and showed it over 2 of thousands of hours of video recordings, including from open sources.

“As it stands, these technologies can help us find a couple of things we might have missed. But we hope they improve and completely change the rules of the game, ”said Lachlan Kermode of Forensic Architecture.

The collected materials will have to be used when filing lawsuits by the Ukrainian military to the European Court of Human Rights.

Russia denies the participation of regular troops in the battles in the Donbass.

At the end of August 2014, Ukrainian fighters of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) were surrounded by the Ilovaisk Donetsk region. According to the Ukrainian authorities, the military of the regular units of the Russian Armed Forces invaded Ukraine to protect the militants they supported and fired on the corridor along which, by agreement, the Ukrainian security forces were to leave. Russia denies statements about its participation in the armed conflict in the Donbass. Then, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, during the hostilities in Ilovaysk, 366 servicemen and volunteers were killed, 429 were injured.

In the 2018 year, the UN Human Rights Office concluded that during the events near Ilovaisk, Donetsk region, in August 2014, all parties to the conflict violated human rights.

OSCE calculated that during the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine 2540 civilians were killed and another 9 thousand were injured of varying severity.

Prior to this, the head of the United Nations Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine, Benjamin Moreau, said that since the beginning of the ATO in the Donbas, the situation with respect for the rights of persons with disabilities has deteriorated.

As for the military, then, according to the OSCE, during the anti-terrorist operation 13 thousands of Ukrainian military were injured and need the help of doctors. They also need the help of psychologists.
