What is Sky Canvas

How it works
The Sky Canvas project involves dropping spheres of material 1 cm wide from satellites. These spheres imitate shooting stars, burning up in the atmosphere and glowing. Fake meteors move slower and glow longer than their natural counterparts, so anyone can spot them.

The particles drop significantly higher than airplanes fly, but they are too small to reach Earth and are made of material similar to natural meteorites, so they will simply burn up in the mesosphere.

Unresolved issues
Orbital launches are notoriously expensive and messy, and fueling satellites with new munitions is no easy task. If they are not much brighter than natural shooting stars, people will still not see them over cities.
