'I do not believe that you need so much': Trump refused to provide New York with 30 thousand ventilation devices

The governor of New York is sounding the alarm: the number of ventilators is not enough to cope with the outbreak of coronavirus. After two weeks, the number of infected COVID-19 can grow dramatically, he noted. However, the president of the country is more optimistic, offering the Americans to return to normal life by Easter. In order to treat the mass of cases at Covid-19, the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, announced the state's need for tens of thousands of new mechanical ventilators. However, US President Donald Trump rejected such a request by Cuomo. The head of state said he does not believe that the numbers on the number of patients are accurate.

“I have a feeling that the numbers they're talking about in some areas are higher than they might be,” Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity on the evening of March 26. “I don’t believe that 40 or 30 thousand ventilators are needed.”

He noted that in many hospitals there are only two mechanical ventilation devices.

“And now they suddenly ask if we can order 30 thousand of these devices,” Trump said.

The President added that the situation arising from the coronavirus epidemic is “very bad.”

“We have not encountered anything like this, but in the end we must return to work; I think we can start by opening certain parts of the country, ”said the US President.

Statements by the president were made because health officials declared the United States the leading country in terms of coronavirus infections. It has been reported that more than 81 people are infected in the United States. More than a thousand people died from the virus, many of them in New York, where today the worst situation in the country is observed in connection with COVID-300.

The Governor of New York warned on March 26 that state hospitals could soon be overloaded with patients affected by the disease caused by this virus. He noted that more than 5 people were hospitalized, including 200 - were placed in intensive care.

Earlier, on March 24, Cuomo announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would send 400 mechanical ventilation devices. This decision was made after the governor warned that the staff needed thousands of devices. The declared amount could help to cope with the impending "peak" of the level of infection. The peak in the number of cases, according to his estimates, will occur in a few weeks.
