For months, a man chased a family from Utah, sending hundreds of craftsmen and couriers to their home.

A man from Hawaii is accused of conducting a complex cyber-harassment campaign against a woman from Utah and her father. He sent repairmen whom they did not call to their house, ordered food delivery, and invited other visitors to their house via the Internet. Writes about this CNN.

The father estimates that between August 2018 and March 2019, more than 500 people came to their North Salt Lake home at the direction of the alleged stalker. Some of the visits were because the suspect "posted the address of the family's home on Craigslist, saying the homeowner wanted to buy drugs and was allowing prostitutes into his home."

44-year-old Lauren Okamura is accused on two counts of cyberstalking, two counts of transporting a person for prostitution and a huge number of threats.

Attorney John Huber refused to provide information about the prosecution.

Regarding the threat, Okamura is accused of contacting a woman and, according to the indictment, wrote to her in an e-mail: “Sleep with one eye open and keep looking over your shoulder, crazy with me, I'm coming for you.”

Okamura also wrote to her: “You just have to kill yourself, it will be a favor for your family.”

In addition, in January 2019 of the year, “Okamura left a blatant amount of spam in the woman’s voice mail.”

Okamura waived his right to a Hawaii detention hearing, deciding instead to hold it in Utah.

Prosecutors asked him to remain in custody until he was brought to Utah for trial.

The police did not disclose the motive

Police refused to say why Okamura chose this particular family from Utah to harass and intimidate, but Huber told reporters that they were not random victims.

“This is truly extreme harassment,” Huber said. “It completely changed the family’s life and affected not only them, but the entire region. This cannot be allowed to happen."

According to local media reports, the persecution became so problematic that the family set a bright yellow sign in front of their house, put a lock on the gate, and even at some point parked a police car near the house.

“If you were asked to provide any services at this address, such as car evacuation, home repair, locksmith, plumbing, food delivery or anything else, please call the police,” the yellow plate says. “It's all a scam.”

Okamure was charged in October and arrested on November 12, according to court documents.

Sgt. Jeffrey Plank of the Utah Department of Homeland Security Cybercrime visited Hawaii last week and worked with the FBI in Honolulu to arrest Okamura.

According to him, the hunt for Okamura took about 15 hours, since the suspect did not have a permanent address or place of work. He also used a phone app to "fake location data."

According to Planck, the police arrested Okamura at the supermarket without incident.
