Plunder and assistance to criminals: the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine called Poroshenko’s associates for questioning

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine called in for questioning as suspected associates current president Petro Poroshenko: ex-head of the National Bank Valery Gontarev, former head of the presidential administration Boris Lozhkin and his deputy Alexei Filatov. All three department called suspects by criminal case businessman Sergey Kurchenko - about the embezzlement of $ 1,5 billion from the budget of Ukraine. Gontareva is suspected of embezzlement and assistance to criminals, Filatov and Lozhkin - in the legalization of illegal income and assistance to members of criminal organizations.

The former head of the National Bank currently lives in London. In a comment to the Ukrainian News agency, she stated that she does not intend to come to Ukraine.

“In general, this cannot be called anything other than politically motivated. Because it’s not just that I never met Yanukovych or Kurchenko or never knew [former First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei] Arbuzov, I never took part in any deal, in any capacity,” Gontareva said.

Sergei Kurchenko is a Ukrainian oligarch close to President Yanukovych and also fled to Russia. The prosecutor's office charged him with nine counts: misappropriation of gas from Ukrnafta and Ukrgazvydobuvannya, attempted misappropriation of money from Naftogaz and other companies, and fictitious entrepreneurship.

The businessman was involved in liquefied gas, petroleum products, and banking. In 2014, with a net worth of $266 million, he was among the top 100 richest Ukrainians (according to the Novoye Vremya publication).

He is considered close to Viktor Yanukovych’s son Alexander, but Kurchenko himself refutes this. Nevertheless, after the Maidan, the businessman fled to Russia after the ex-president.

After fleeing to Russia, Kurchenko continues to be involved in the oil and gas business. Recently, according to DW, the Austrian company GeОlog Oil&Gas Trading, owned by one of Kurchenko’s people, bought a network of gas stations in Germany. What’s interesting: the executive director of Geolog Oil, Christoph Gerg, registered the company at the same address in Vienna as Kurchenko’s companies.

Ukrainian publications “Liga” and “Ukrainskaya Pravda” also claim that the 31-year-old oligarch and the Petroleum company allegedly export coal from the Donbass territories not controlled by Kyiv to Russia. Some of the coal goes further through Uspenskaya, Kiziterinka stations and the port of Rostov, in particular for export to Turkey (Mersin).

The second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine was 21 April. Its final results have not yet been officially announced, however, following the results of counting 99,98% protocols, Zelensky wins with the result in 73,23%.
