Hackers broke into Capital One Bank and obtained data from 106 million customers
The suspect allegedly previously worked in the cloud service Amazon, where the bank stored customer data.
Hackers broke into the base of the American Capital One bank and got access to 106 millions of credit cards, thousands of social security numbers and bank accounts, writes Tjournal with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
Hackers gained access to credit card information issued from 2005 to 2019. The hacking affected 140 thousands of social security numbers, 80 thousands of bank accounts, as well as credit histories, statements, addresses, dates of birth and income levels of bank customers.
On suspicion of committing a crime, police arrested 33-year-old Paige Thompson from Seattle, Wash. She was charged with cyber fraud, in particular, bypassing the protection of Capital One in order to gain access to personal data of users. The bank kept them on the Amazon Web Services cloud service.

According to the sources of the publication, before Thompson worked at Amazon Web Services. In the criminal case, it is stated that in the period from 2015 to 2016, she served as a systems specialist in the cloud computing service, the name of which the state did not indicate.
Representatives of the bank believe that the data were unlikely to be distributed or used for fraudulent purposes. The investigation believes that Thompson was going to publish information on the network. The bank estimated the damage from hacking in 100-150 million dollars.
