Hackers stole 30 data of millions of Facebook users

Hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in Facebook's code that existed between July 2017 and September 2018. The vulnerability was found in the code of the “View as page visitor” function. An error in the code made it possible to steal the user's unique key - a token - which is generated so that there is no need to re-enter the password each time.

This allowed attackers to steal 400 tokens of thousands of people and their friends, friends of these friends, and so on. Total attackers received data 30 million users.

In the 15 million user accounts, hackers have gained access to their name and contact information, including their phone number and email address.

At 14 million - to contact information, as well as to other information that people indicated in their profiles. It:

• Username,
• floor,
• tongue,
• relationship status
• religion,
• hometown,
• City of residence,
• Date of Birth,
• types of devices used to access Facebook,
• education,
• Job,
• the last 10 places a user has been registered or checked in
• profiles of people or pages that a user likes,
• 15 recent searches queries.

Of the 1 million people profiles, the attackers did not receive any information.

The company reports that the attack did not affect Messenger, Messenger Kids, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Workplace, Pages, payments, third-party applications, advertisers and developers accounts.

The social network has changed the access keys to the 90 accounts of millions of users, as a result, their owners had to log in again. They did not need to change the password.

The company noted that they are cooperating with the FBI: it is actively engaged in the investigation and asked Facebook not to reveal who could be behind the attack.

Recall that September, 28, Facebook, made a statement that about 50 million accounts users could be hacked as a result of a cyber attack perpetrated on a social network. Then the social networks could not say exactly how much information became available to the attackers. More than 90 millions of Facebook users were forced to log out of their accounts on Friday morning as a security measure.

This violation led many to recall Facebook’s last privacy scandal - after a controversial situation with Cambridge Analytica and the uncontrolled spread of Russian propaganda during and after the 2016 presidential election of the year. Confidence in the gigantic social network used by more than two billion people around the world has definitely been shaken, and each subsequent time it is shaking it all the more.
