The world's tallest woman has said she has to book six seats on an airliner when she travels because she has to be strapped into a stretcher for the entire flight, she says. Daily Mail.

Earlier this year, Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands 215 centimeters tall, shared plans to visit every country after celebrating her 28th birthday.
However, for the Guinness World Record holder, traveling by plane, car or any other form of transport is not an easy task.

Rumeysa, who lives in Turkey's Karabuk province, usually uses a wheelchair or a walker to get around. Her enormous height is the result of Weaver syndrome, which causes accelerated growth.
For most of her life, she was too tall to fit into regular airplane seats, but now Rumeysa can travel the world thanks to Turkish Airlines. The airline removed six seats from one of its planes and installed a specially made stretcher in their place.
In September 2022, Rumeysa took her first flight, a trip she described to San Francisco, California, as “flawless from start to finish.”
Rumeysa is a web developer and freelancer. Since 1922, she has flown at least once a year and only with Turkish Airlines, as it is one of the few airlines that offers stretcher service.
Although Rumeisa has already visited several countries on her bucket list, including Spain, Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom, her quest to discover new places comes with many obstacles.
Because she cannot sit in a regular airplane seat, Rumeysa is carried on board on a stretcher and spends the entire flight lying down.
She also needs to arrive at the airport four hours before departure to meet with medical staff and pay for the space the stretcher takes up, which typically costs six seats.
Rumeisa has not yet travelled by bus or train, but hopes to do so in the coming months.
Besides the difficulties with transportation, one of the biggest problems for Rumeysa is the lack of accessibility when visiting historical or famous sites: “It is sad to deny yourself the opportunity to see outstanding places and experience the richness of history.”
"It can be frustrating to know that the only obstacle is lack of accessibility. For me, safety always comes first, not only for the safety of the wheelchair, but also for my own health. With spinal implants, even a small fall can be extremely dangerous. If there is no proper accessibility, I prefer not to take unnecessary risks," she explained.
Although East Asia (Tokyo, Kyoto, Shanghai and Seoul) is set to be Rumeysa's next destination, her greatest wish remains to visit the ancient monuments in her hometown of Safranbolu, Turkey.
She shared her dream: "One of the most famous places is the Old City, where you can see well-preserved houses, mansions and baths from the Ottoman era. Unfortunately, although I live very close, I have not been able to visit it yet, because it is not very convenient to move around in those places."

Rumeysa noted that when visiting ancient churches in the past, she found it physically difficult to move around the area: “Historical sites are often preserved in their original state, which I completely understand and respect.”
She hopes that over time more “innovative solutions” will emerge to make historic sites accessible to visitors with disabilities: “Everyone deserves to experience the past, regardless of their mobility.”
