What skills are most in demand in the labor market in 2025
The World Economic Forum's (WEF) Future of Jobs 2025 report provides data on the skills that are most valued in the labor market today. What do you need to be able to do this year, writes Naked Science.

The job market is rapidly evolving, and the skills that employers value most are changing with it. As automation, artificial intelligence, and remote work change the way people work today, companies are looking for people who can adapt and succeed.
The table highlights the most important professional skills based on data from the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Future of Jobs 2025 report. The ranking is based on 1043 reviews from international companies that collectively employ more than 14,1 million people.

At the top of the list is analytical thinking, which 69% of employers cite as a “core skill.” This skill highlights the growing demand for people who can solve complex problems, interpret data, and make informed decisions in the face of uncertainty. With rapid digital transformation, employers are focusing on cognitive abilities and critical thinking.
Flexibility, versatility, and the ability to change rank just below analytical thinking (67%). Leadership and social influence (61%) came in third, creative thinking (57%) ranked fourth, and motivation and self-awareness (52%) rounded out the top five.

Technological literacy (51%), curiosity and continuous learning (50%) highlight a willingness to change in a rapidly changing world.
AI and data science (45%) also made the top half of the list, reflecting the shift to the digital age. Meanwhile, traditional skills such as reading, writing and math (21%) ranked much lower, reflecting the growing importance of technology skills.
