Walmart opens the holiday season and promises unprecedented discounts on gifts

Already next Friday, October 25, the Walmart chain begins the holiday shopping season, which this year will last 6 days less than a year ago. Online discount offers will be launched sooner than ever before.

On Wednesday, October 23, the retailer announced plans to help consumers start buying gifts in advance with new and expanded services, exclusive toys and events, including Santa Claus visits. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this year will be 6 days less than last, notes USA Today.

“We're going to offer more savings, more shopping options, more gifts and more fun in our stores than ever before,” said Steve Bratspies, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Walmart US. “This is all done to simplify the shopping process, ensuring low prices and the best season for our customers.”

The holiday season is the most important time of year for retail, and stores are fighting for every customer to make the shopping experience as convenient, simple and fast as possible.

Starting at midnight ET on Friday, October 15th, Walmart is launching Early Deals Drops on Walmart.com, which will actually happen sooner than ever. Examples of great deals include: VIZIO 55-inch M Series Quantum 4K Ultra HDR Smart TV for $398 - Save over $100!

Walmart eases the shopping process with 9 technologically advanced ways, including free NextDay delivery and the extended Check Out With Me service, which allows customers to avoid long lines and check out right where they shop.

This is the first holiday season when Walmart offers free next day delivery for orders worth over 35 dollars, and also sells over hundreds of thousands of items, including electronics and toys, with no membership fee. In comparison, Amazon Prime, which offers next day delivery, will cost you 119 dollars a year.

New and Advanced Features

In addition to NextDay’s free shipping, there are other features that Walmart says will make shopping easier on the holidays.

• Gift Finder: new this year - gift search function at Walmart.com, which provides personalized 40 gift options for various types of recipients based on information provided by consumers.
• Scannable Toy Catalog: for the first time, buyers with iOS devices can use their phones to buy the most popular toys of the season right on the pages of the Walmart seasonal toy catalog, which will be available on November 1.
• Expanded Check Out With Me: an option is available in all Walmart super centers, which allows consumers to avoid queues and check out right where they shop.
• Expanded DotCom Store: The DotCom store, which is now also available in all Walmart super centers, allows customers, together with partners, to place online orders directly from the store if the customer cannot find the product they came for. Then the goods are sent directly to the customer’s house or to the nearest Walmart store where they can be picked up.

More Gifts

Walmart says this year the chain offers more exclusive and new brands in stores and online, including SwissTech, WoodWick, Hobby Kids Adventures, Hello Bello, Kindi Kids and Bobbi Brown. Walmart will also have more than 500 exclusive toys, which is 20% more than last year.

More events

Starting November 2nd, Walmart will be offering more fun events throughout the holiday season. The retailer will host movie-themed events, including Pokémon and Star Wars on November 16-17 and Frozen 2 on November 23-24.

Santa Claus plans to make stops at Walmart stores nationwide on November 9 and December 7.
