Evacuation

The ammunition depot caught fire near the Krasnoyarsk village of Kamenka, its residents were evacuated by rescuers, according to the unified duty dispatch service (EDDS) of the Achinsk region, writes Air force. Residents of three more settlements were also taken out - Maly Uluy, Zavorki and Klyuchi. In addition, the Sokol children's camp and the Sosnovy Bor sanatorium were evacuated.

The press service of the Central Military District stated that in the territory of one of the warehouses of the logistics center, charges for artillery ammunition had ignited.

“Regular duty crews have taken measures to prevent the spread of fire and ensure safety in the burning area. The fire is currently being localized with the assistance of armored firefighting vehicles from the warehouse’s fire brigade,” the press service said. The warehouse personnel were evacuated, the message says.

According to preliminary data, the two artillery warehouses may contain over 40 thousand shells, “including 125 and 152 millimeter calibers,” RIA Novosti reports, citing a representative of the region’s emergency services.

The warehouse was planned to be disbanded before 2022, the Ministry of Defense said.

Two firefighting trains were sent to extinguish the fire, as well as two Uran-14 robots designed for firefighting.

How many affected

According to the latest data, nine people were injured in the explosions. Among those who needed help, there is a child, said the source of RIA Novosti in the emergency services of the region.

“Two soldiers have shrapnel wounds. A total of seven people were hospitalized,” the district hospital previously told Interfax.

“We have no information about the victims at all,” a representative of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Ministry of Health told the agency.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has denied reports of the death of one soldier, which were reported by a news agency referring to a source.

Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, speaking on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, said that the radius of the danger zone has not yet been fully determined - “it will depend on what kind of ammunition can explode.” However, he did not rule out that the fire in the warehouse would spread.

To assess the damage, however, according to Uss, is not yet worth it.

“There are broken windows and damaged walls, but so far the village has not been seriously damaged,” said the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
