An explosion in a University of Nevada hostel: 8 affected, two buildings destroyed. VIDEO
5 in July due to a technical problem in the basement of the dormitory of the University of Nevada at Reno, a powerful explosion occurred, as a result of which eight people were injured and a partial collapse of two buildings occurred.
Extensive damage was caused to several floors of the Argenta Hall building. Video filming at the scene showed broken windows and doors, partially collapsed walls, garbage on the ground near the hostel, writes New York Post.
Student Raven Green told me that she was in her room and watched Netflix when she heard a loud boom and felt the building was shaking.
The girl decided that it was an earthquake. When she opened the door, she could barely make out something in the corridor that was thick with thick smoke. There was rubbish everywhere and splashes of water were flying.
“It was very scary,” she admitted.
Two victims were taken to the hospital and had already been discharged, another six received the necessary assistance at the scene of the incident, said Steven Leighton, head of the Renault fire service.

The police and fire brigade searched the building, but expressed doubts that there was someone else there.
“We were fortunate that it was a holiday weekend and there was really no one in those premises,” said Todd Renwick, university police chief.
Officials have not determined the specific cause of the explosion, but said it was the result of "mechanical failure in the basement" of the seven-story building.
According to Layton, there were two explosions - the second of them was caught by firefighters already on the spot, and then the main damage to the Argenta Hall building occurred, which affected the nearby Nye Hall building. So far, authorities have not been able to thoroughly inspect the basement, which is flooded with about 60 centimeters of water.

Green, 19, said she climbed over doors and pieces of drywall to get out of the building - only to find the stairs destroyed. The girl rushed back to her room to get out of the smoke zone as quickly as possible and called 911 for help. She was later evacuated safely.
Sophomore Raymond Floyd was in his room in the Peavine Hall across the street when he heard a loud noise. At first he did not pay attention, having decided that someone in his building slammed the door. But then the fire alarm went off.
Approximately in 10 minutes after his building was evacuated, there was a “much bigger and louder” explosion, he said.
“I could see smoke, debris in the air, pieces of the roof flying,” Floyd said.
In Argenta Hall, the laundry rooms on each floor were “torn apart” by the explosion, he said.
