The war in Ukraine continues to affect language learning

Globally, 37% of new students learn Ukrainian to communicate with people. This proportion is significantly higher than for other languages ​​- for example, only 17% of English learners and 18% of French learners are enrolled for this reason. In 2023, the countries where the Ukrainian language was studied the most were the US, UK, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. The Ukrainian language is studied most seriously (in terms of average time spent on learning) in Australia, followed by Canada and Finland.

Ukrainians join the list of the most serious students

Students from Belarus, Japan, Hungary, Russia and Ukraine are the most serious students in 2023. There are two significant changes to this list: Japan has dropped to second place, and Ukraine has moved up to fifth place. These countries had the highest average time spent studying among all students.

The generation gap: what students learn and how they learn it
