Coming from the USSR bought the most expensive townhouse in New York
Named the owner of the most expensive townhouse in New York: a mansion in Manhattan for 79,5 million dollars bought by a native of the former USSR, billionaire Leonard Blavatnik, writes Runyweb.
The purchase of a house in the Upper East Side area at 19 64th East Street was issued in April last year. Seller - Asian conglomerate HNA Group — named the transaction amount, but not the buyer.
Before Blavatnik's purchase, a four-story house built in the 1930s was used as a gallery by the Wildenstein family for 85 years.
The Real Deal recalls that Blavatnik tried to buy a mansion a year earlier. The deal fell through, and he sued David Wildenstein, accusing him of manipulating his offer in order to get a higher price from another buyer. The court did not consider this case.
Sources of New York Post claim that Blavatnik is going to reschedule the mansion and use it as housing for his family. It will be expensive, but money is definitely not a problem for a person whose fortune Forbes estimates at 20,5 billion dollars. Blavatnik is called the richest resident of Great Britain, and in the world ranking he occupies the 40 place.
60-year-old Blavatnik owns several more buildings in New York, which he spent on the purchase of a total of more than 150 million dollars.
The previous price record for a townhouse in Manhattan was made about 10 years ago: mansion Harkness was bought by financier Christopher Flowers for 53 million dollars.
Last September, Blavatnik was mentioned as one of three Americans with connections in the Russian business who made major donations to the Donald Trump presidential campaign. Blavatnik, who has American and British citizenship, contributed to the national committee of the Republican Party 383 thousands of dollars since the end of April 2016, and another million to the Trump inaugural fund.
