You can violate the Florida license plate law and not be aware of it.

Decorative borders on license plates are fairly common in Florida, but many are a violation of state law.

Alvaro Alves managed to avoid a penalty for the frame only because the judge relented, because at the time of the trial, Alves had already removed the frame, writes Miami Herald.

In early 2017, Alves was stopped by a police officer because one of his headlights was not working. The driver had a spare bulb, so he decided to fix the headlight on the spot. But the officer gave him another ticket - for the frame on the license plate.

To Alves's remark that the frame does not cover the numbers and letters on the number, the officer replied that it covers the words MyFlorida.com and sunshine state, which is also a violation of the law.

Indeed, Florida law prohibits a framework that prevents the visibility of any part of the license plate.

There is nothing on the number plate to glue, spray or add additional lighting that may interfere with its visibility.

A policeman gave Alves a fine of 114 dollars, but the judge canceled it, softening due to the fact that the driver had already removed the frame.

At the same time, Alves noted that, in his opinion, the 9 of 10 drivers in Florida are not aware of this law and, accordingly, that many of them violate it.

According to statistics, this law is rarely applied. In 2013, Miami-Dade County was issued for this reason, the total 59 fines. All of the state police departments in 2013 had a little more than 2200 fines for license plates.
