The televised debate between US presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump at Washington University in St. Louis began with a question about role models and quickly moved on to discuss the scandal over a 2005 videotape in which Trump, in particular, boasted about how he "clamped "women, kissed them and grabbed their private parts, writes Air force.

The businessman candidate said reporters misunderstood his apology, with the Republican remarking Friday that his words were a “locker room joke.”

“This was a conversation behind closed doors, I am not proud of it, I apologize to my family, to the American people. But you know, today we live in a world where ISIS is cutting off heads, where people are drowning in steel cages, where there are wars and terrible sights everywhere, where so many terrible things happen - just like in the Middle Ages. We have never seen anything like this, such bloodshed around the world,” Trump quotes “Voice of America«.

Clinton responded that Trump is the first candidate whose suitability for the presidency she has doubts about.

The Democrat recalled the Republican’s sexism, quarrelsomeness and “ability to insult anyone.”

Trump responded by saying that former President Bill Clinton “did much worse things” and harassed women on a regular basis, noting that Hillary should be ashamed of her remarks.

“If you look at Bill Clinton, it's much worse. I only had words, but he pestered women and attacked them. Hillary Clinton attacked these women—attacked them viciously. Four of these women are here. ... So don't talk to me about words. I apologize for these words. But these are the things that people say. But what President Clinton did was he was impeached, he lost his license to practice law. He had to pay a fine of $850 thousand to one of these women. Paula Jones, who is here today. When Hillary Clinton raises these issues, these are words. She should be ashamed,” Trump said.

Hillary refused to discuss Trump's remarks about her husband.

Instead, she said that the publicly released video shows the voters who Donald Trump really is.

Email Hillary and Obamacare

Another hot topic of the second debate of US presidential candidates was the use of Hillary Clinton's e-mail when she was US Secretary of State.

“If we're talking about apologies, I think you should apologize for the 33 emails that you deleted,” Trump said.

He also added that if elected, he would order the prosecutor's office to check Clinton's email.

“I hope millions of people will check the veracity of his statements because it’s great not to have someone with Donald Trump’s temperament in power in our country,” Clinton said.

“Because then you’d be in jail,” Trump told his rival.

After this, the debate shifted to health care reform, known as Obamacare: Trump called it a failure, while Clinton found that after revision, it would work with a new force.

Obamacare supporters say that in this way millions of people still not insured will get access to medical care. Opponents of Obamacare from the Republican Party have repeatedly called this program a huge and senseless waste of money, because it uses government subsidies.

Russia, Syria and Islam

Further, in the course of the debate, Trump and Clinton argued about Islam and Russia's role in the conflict in Syria.

A Republican nominee accused Hillary Democrat of wanting to accept all refugees, among whom may be jihadists.

“Muslims should report problems when they see them,” Trump said.

Clinton emphasized that Muslims are an integral part of American society, and accepting refugees is a humanitarian duty, given the length of the civil war in Syria, and also accused Russia of destabilizing the situation in this country.

In addition, according to a Democratic candidate, the recent Wikileaks revelations about her lectures are playing into the hands of Vladimir Putin’s policy.

“The Kremlin is directing hacker attacks on American servers to influence the outcome of the presidential election,” the former secretary of state noted.

Trump, for his part, felt that the union of Washington and Moscow against the Islamists in Syria would have been successful.

“I don’t know anything about the internal structure of Russia, I don’t have any business interests there,” the Republican added.

Later, the candidates returned to the Russian topic. Hillary Clinton said that Russian military involvement in Syria is aimed only at destroying the opponents of Bashar al-Assad, but not the Islamic State.

“I helped negotiate a nuclear disarmament treaty with Russia,” Clinton said.

“But every day we see the consequences of the Assad regime and Russia’s single-minded desire to destroy Aleppo. We must use leverage over Russia. If we can cooperate with Russia, then we should do so,” the former secretary of state added.

“Russia and Iran are against the Islamic State, I don’t like Assad, but he is fighting against the Islamic State,” Trump retorted.

“Aleppo, one might say, has already fallen,” the Republican added.

At the same time, Clinton called the Kurds the “best partners” of the United States in Syria and Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State group, which is banned in a number of countries around the world, including Russia.

"Hillary Clinton's Fly"

During the heated debates on Clinton's face, a fly flew live and rested there for a few seconds.

The candidate did not even notice this, but social network users reacted violently and even created a Twitter account for the fly.

About a hundred tweets have already been posted on the microblog on behalf of “fly Hillary Clinton.” In one of them, a fly “writes” that it will take part in the third round of debates.

Best in each other

The last question from the floor touched on what the candidates respect about each other: Clinton praised Trump's children, and the Republican praised the fact that she doesn't give up.

“I respect his children. His kids are incredibly capable, and that says something about Donald. For me, as a mother and grandmother, this is very important. We see so much conflict and hostility in this election because there is so much at stake. <…> This is the most important election in history, and I want to move away from the personal and talk about specific things - what I will do if I become president,” Clinton said.

«I consider what she said about my children to be a compliment. I'm proud of them. What I will say about Clinton is that she doesn’t give up, and I respect that. She's a fighter. “I don’t agree with what she stands for, with her decisions - but she fights, she doesn’t give up, and that’s a good thing,” Trump said.

Verification of facts

"He [Bill Clinton - ed. ForumDaily] had to pay an $850 fine to one of these women,” Trump said.

Bill Clinton actually paid this amount to Paule Jones, but it was not a judicial fine. In 1999, Clinton, who was then president of the United States, made a deal with Jones, who accused him of sexual harassment, out of court settlement. Jones claims that Clinton pestered her in 1991: he was then the governor of Arkansas, and she worked in the government office of that state.

Clinton really paid Jones $850 thousand in exchange for agreeing to close the case, but did not apologize. Almost half of the paid amount Clinton paid out of family savings.

“[Hillary Clinton] laughed at this girl who was raped. Katie Shelton is this woman with us today. So don’t talk to me about words,” Trump said.

It is an exaggeration to say that Clinton laughed at the victim of rape. This is a case from the mid 1980-s, when Clinton worked as a lawyer. She defended a factory worker who was accused of raping an 12-year-old girl. On a previously unpublished audio recording of an interview with a journalist from Arkansas, you can hear that Clinton 4 laughs once, discussing a lawsuit.

This claim has been refuted before. The FBI said Clinton's team used a free program called "Bleach." We're not talking about the chemical bleaching process, of course. The Bleacher website has already laughed at Trump, writing that this program is not just inexpensive, but completely free.

“I was against the war in Iraq. You can’t argue with that,” Trump said.

This statement has already been refuted earlier. Trump did not publicly speak out against the war in Iraq before the US military operation began there.

These debates differed from the previous and subsequent picks by their interactivity: half of the questions came from the audience sitting in front of politicians.

The previous meeting between politicians was held in the format of six 15-minute thematic sections. The third (and last) debate between the candidates will follow the same pattern.
