World Embroidery Day: Zelensky presented Trump with a traditional Ukrainian shirt

On World Embroidery Day, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the First Lady sent traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts as a gift to world leaders. Among the recipients is US President Donald Trump. This was reported on his page in Facebook Office of the President of Ukraine.

Gifts symbolizing Ukrainian history and culture were received by the leaders of the United States of America, the Federal Republic of Germany, the French Republic, Canada, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Turkey and other countries.

“May 21, Ukraine celebrates the Day of embroidery - a holiday designed to protect and respect the ancient traditions of our people. The embroidery is an original code of our ethnic group with charms and symbols encrypted in the original ornaments. With a sincere heart, we want to share with you a piece of Ukrainian history and authenticity, ”wrote Vladimir and Elena Zelensky in a letter accompanying the gifts.

The team of the US Embassy in Ukraine supported this holiday

Employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine dressed on embroidered shirts on the occasion of the holiday and urged others to do the same, writes UNNO.

“In honor of Embroidery Day, the US Embassy team dressed in their best embroidered shirts. Celebrate with us - publish your photos in your favorite embroidered shirt,” the diplomats wrote.

Traditionally, Embroidered Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of May, in 2020 it fell on May 21.

The holiday was born on the initiative of students of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the Chernivtsi University named after Yuriy Fedkovich. In 2006, they proposed devoting one day of the year to the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt.
