Fewer Ukrainians want to join the European Union
More than half of the population considers the entry of Ukraine into the EU a priority. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by the Ilk Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.
In particular, according to the survey, answering the question “Do you think entry into which community is a priority for Ukraine?” 51,2% named the European Union. 17,3% consider Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union with Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to be a priority. 31,3% was hard to answer.
Irina Bekeshkina, director of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, noted that in 2010, the majority of the population considered joining the Customs Union as a priority (49% versus 38% of those who supported the priority of joining the European Union).
In December, 2014, 57% chose orientation to join the European Union and only 16% - to the Customs Union.
The study was conducted from July 22 to July 27, 2015. 2011 respondents were surveyed in all regions of Ukraine, with the exception of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The theoretical sampling error is 2,3%.
