More Las Vegas Hotels Introduce High Tourist Fees and Parking Fees

Daily resort fees and parking fees are growing and spreading among hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada, adding up to 45 dollars a day to the hotel bills of city visitors.

According to a local travel portal journalist Las vegas advisor Anthony Curtis, these innovations have led to a decrease in the number of tourists coming to the city, writes LA Times.

“Everyone hates resort fees, but parking fees are even worse. Everyone wants some kind of compliment from an establishment, and the best compliment is free parking,” Curtis said.

At the same time, representatives of the tourist authorities of the city believe that these fees are not a reason for reducing the level of attendance in Las Vegas.

“We have no information to prove a link between the various fees and the decline in visits,” a department spokesman said.

They also suggested that the number of tourists in the city that had already been falling for 10 months was connected with the renovation and modernization of many entertainment facilities in the city, as well as the tragic events of October 1 2017, when during the Las Vegas music festival 58 people were killed.

The resort fee usually covers the cost of Wi-Fi in a hotel room, local telephone calls, and also gives visitors access to the hotel’s fitness centers and pools. The tourist must pay this fee, regardless of whether he uses these amenities or not.

The amount of the resort fee varies depending on the hotel, but it is now introduced in almost all hotels in Las Vegal. For example, in Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino visitors will have to pay an extra 32 dollar per day; in hotels of the chain Boyd gaming this amount will be $ 14,99 per day; the highest resort fees currently introduced The Venetian and Palazzo — in these hotels, visitors will have to pay an additional $45 resort fee for each day of their stay; online MGM Resorts Fees range from 30 to 39 dollars.

In addition, many hotels have introduced a parking fee, which is about 5 dollars per day.

The number of visitors to Las Vegas has steadily decreased over the past 10 months, and Curtis relates this to the increase in tourist fees and the introduction of parking fees. A survey conducted by him on the tourist site showed that more than two thirds of respondents oppose such innovations in the city.

In March 2018, the number of visitors to Las Vegas decreased by less than 1% compared to March 2017, in absolute terms, this decrease was 34 100 people.
