NASA's return to the moon and space donuts: where to watch the broadcast of the launch of 'Artemis' to the Earth's satellite

Tomorrow (August 29) morning a historic event will take place - America will begin its return to the Moon. Around 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, the SLS launch vehicle will lift off from Launch Complex 39-B in Florida, sending Artemis 1 on its journey to Earth's moon orbit.

Artemis-1 will fly more than 800 thousand kilometers. During the first test mission, NASA engineers want to test the readiness of all systems for future manned flights, as well as set a record for distance from Earth for a ship designed for crew work. In 42 days, having completed maneuvers in lunar orbit, the Orion lander should splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of the United States.

The flight of Artemis 1 will set a precedent for all subsequent NASA missions to the Moon, and then to Mars. The launch is the first in a planned series of more complex missions that will culminate in a lunar landing scheduled for 2025.

The Artemis 1 space program was named after the ancient Greek goddess Artemis, who was considered the goddess of the Moon and the twin sister of Apollo. 50 years ago, the United States sent ships to the Moon and landed astronauts there as part of a program called Apollo.

At 7:33 ET (an hour before launch), Voice of America will begin broadcasting the launch of Artemis 1 in Russian.
